We started to focus on the ideas of the projects and help each other to cooperate in the future with a project that can help the refugees and their integration "
The First day was very enthusiastic started with some “Getting to know each other” activities and ice breaking with some instructions about the city and the country in general, and what is the study visit all about. Plus introducing the team of the host organization and the daily schedule, and what kind of outside visits and indoor presentations.
Then we got divided into groups of five to explore the city and find some stuff plus asking the opinion of the people living there about “Refugees case” and how they look at them and how the country is looking to develop them regarding the languages and to help them be integrated into the society. The main idea was to help the people know each other deeply and how can they organize themselves to work in teams to be able to cooperate during the study visit and get a full awareness of how the society needs from the refugees in order to speed up the phase of integration.
At the end, we had a session about the country generally and how many languages are required to be able to live in the country and about the population and how many organizations are working on the refugee’s case whether they are local or European or international organizations and how many we are going to meet or have a presentation about them or their work.
On the second day, we had a visit to “CLAE” which is one of the organizations that work on the integration of the refugees or the migrants. They offer different services in terms of language courses for the French language, computer courses and consultancy for job seekers in the way of how to implement/submit a C.V that matches the expectations of the Luxembourgish market. My focus points in this visit were mainly about the level of the language they offer and they can meet the job market or the students will need more levels or not. As well as, the capacity of the organization or how many refugees they can manage, and finally the certificate of language they offer is officially accredited in the country or not.
Then we had a session when every country participants gathered to showcase of the country status such as population, space and refugee’s case which means how the governments deal with this sensitive case which took much time regarding many countries involved and the numbers and the way of integrations each country use. Then evaluate the showcases plus questioning the country representatives about their ideas and how they see the way of development.
After that we had a great opportunity to meet with a “Red Cross” organization and how they deal with this specific case locally and on the European level. The representative idea was to make a circle of questions after she introduced herself and how the Red Cross work in Luxembourg, she talked about the field of work, departments and the refugee process implementations from the Red Cross side. The capacity of Red Cross in Luxembourg either by number of volunteers or the capacity of refuges or projects they can handle. And how the Luxembourgish government delegate the task to the Red Cross to help integrate the refugees and the migrants.
Then we had a presentation from a representative from the UN talked about the case of the refugees in Europe and how each country deal with it. And showed also some examples of Arab countries and how they organize the camps on the borders and about the activities they allow the refugees to do in order to feel more alive.
Then we had a presentation from a representative from “ASTI” association of Luxembourg, which is an association focuses on the immigrants to Luxembourg City in the last 20 years. It was mainly a statistical presentation about the number of immigrants came to the country, including from which nations they are coming from , what are the languages they speak, what’s the field of study/work background they are coming with , and what are the services that ASTI offers in order to help them to be enhanced with the Luxembourgian society. In this presentation I mainly focused on the difference between the integration process of an immigrant and a refugee, beside also how many languages that could be spoken with in Luxembourg and what are the fields that needs more than one language in matter of adaptation.
In the evening we had to split into organizations to start the market of the partners where each organization can look for a partner in next cooperation whether with proposals or leading applicant or even a partner country to host a program. So we can find for ourselves the ground of having a mutual cooperation’s between each other as organizations in the future.
Representation from “OLAI” organization, which is an integration public agency under the umbrella of ministry of family, integration and Grand Region. It was also a statistical presentation like the ones we had in previous days, but the representative focused this time on the governmental support they have, as well as the long term projects/plans organized by the governments and handled by them.
On the other part of the day, we had a welcoming visit from the mayor of dudelange city in Luxembourg in the head quarter “Ville de Dudelange”. He welcomed us in the house and gave us a small presentation of this small city and some of his experiences in dealing with immigrates and refugees.
At the end we started to focus on the ideas of the projects and help each other to cooperate in the future with a project that can help the refugees and their integration, then it was the evaluation and after we had the closing ceremony.
