The first day started with the welcoming intro about the program contents and the countries participating in the project, enhanced with some basic ice breaking games to get to know each other’s as participants. Then, we started to talk about the expectations and results we seek from the study visits and sessions within the program, as well as how to make use of these results in the future with a cooperated network between organizations.
Part two from the day started in the middle of the day again after the coffee break with distributing the participants into several groups, and starting a treasure hunt through Luxembourg City. Mainly the idea from this exercise is also about to get each other’s more as participants , as well as to have a closer insight about the culture of Luxembourg city and its citizens, as this treasure hunting was about to ask people randomly in the streets about the case of “Refugees” in the city. The survey questions were mainly about basic points about the case, including how many refugees in the city? Do you agree of hosting them or not? What are the pros and cons from hosting refugees with different culture in the country?. I see that this exercise was quite useful, as it made us get an insight about the different people’s opinions, considering the fact of that most of the city citizens are originally from another countries. I was pretty satisfied with many people’s answers, as many of them agreed that hosting many refugees to Luxembourg will be so useful for the country, but only in one case which is that they have a very good well-oriented integration process.
Finally, at the end of the day we had a session about the history of migration to Luxembourg. The session was mainly about the city’s population, how many other nationalities residence in the city beside the locals, how many languages they use and how they made use of the diversity they have and turning it into one of the advantages of the country.
Day 2:
The day started with a quite useful visit to ”Clae” organization, they are one of the organizations whom taking a part in the integration of the refugees in Luxembourg. They offer different services in terms of language courses for the French language, computer courses and consultancy for job seekers in the way of how to implement/submit a C.V that matches the expectations of the Luxembourgian market. My focus points in this visit were mainly about the level of the language they offer and they can meet the job market or the students will need more levels or not. As well as , the capacity of the organization or how many refugees they can manage, and finally the certificate of language they offer is officially accredited in the country or not.
Moreover, after the visit we started a session with sharing knowledge of the participants of the refugee process in their countries, and their expectations and opinions about the whole process. Every group of participants from each country had to make a 10-15 minute presentations of the refugee process in the country.at this time, I had the chance to talk about statistics of the refuges in Germany, considering the number of people and from which countries they are coming from. As well as , the percentage of them getting the status of a refugee and what’s the state policy, and finally what are the successful projects/ideas held in Germany and what are the most challenges faced in implementing the process
.Finally, we managed to start the culture evening with typical food and drinks from each country and some videos that gives insight about the country’s culture, politics and economics.
Day 3:
The first part of day 3 , was mainly resuming the countries presentations towards the refuges process with statistics and numbers which started in the previous day. Later on, we had the chance to have a session circle with a representative from the “Red Cross” organization of Luxemburg. As I mentioned it was a circle more than a presentation, she talked about the field of work, departments and the refugee process implementations from the Red Cross side. At this circle, I had many focus points to ask her about, I asked about the capacity of Red Cross in Luxembourg either by number of volunteers or the capacity of refuges or projects they can handle. Moreover, I had to ask also about the relation between the Red Cross and the Luxembourgian governments and what are the common interests between each other’s in the field of refugee integration in the society.
Day 4:
This day was mainly an indoor presentation day, it started with a presentation done by a representative from the UN in the refugee rights committee, and he talked about the history of the refugees and the difference between the process nowadays and in former times. He gave some useful meanings and statistics that helped the participants to have a full perception of the refugee concept. As well as , he made his studies in a specific part in the refugee process which is the “refugee camps”, so he talked about the refugee camps and it’s all stages starting from tents ending up with a developed community of refugees inside the country.
After this presentation, we had another done by a representative from “Asti” association of Luxembourg, which is an association focuses on the immigrants to Luxembourg City in the last 20 years. It was mainly a statistical presentation about the number of immigrants came to the country, including from which nations they are coming from , what are the languages they speak, what’s the field of study/work background they are coming with , and what are the services that ASTI offers in order to help them to be enhanced with the Luxembourgian society. In this presentation I mainly focused on the difference between the integration process of an immigrant and a refugee, beside also how many languages that could be spoken with in Luxembourg and what are the fields that needs more than one language in matter of adaptation.
Finally, in the last period of the day we gathered into different groups that comes from the same organizations, in order to make the concept of the “Partners Market”. This workshop was mainly about that each group creates a flipchart about his own organization, in terms of field of work, target groups, and upcoming projects, so we can find for ourselves the ground of having a mutual cooperation’s between each other as organizations in the future.
Day 5:
This day started with networking of the group members, by a simple idea of mile stoning the field of work of each organization and separating them into points, and then connecting each point written to another point/field that could be possible to be cooperated. For example, to connect the social entrepreneurship criteria with arts and games..etc. After finishing the process of networking, we had the chance to have a presentation from representation from “OLAI” organization, which is an integration public agency under the umbrella of ministry of family, integration and Grand Region. It was also a statistical presentation like the ones we had in previous days, but the representative focused this time on the governmental support they have, as well as the long term projects/plans organized by the governments and handled by them.
On the other part of the day, we had a welcoming visit from the major of dudelange city in Luxembourg in the head quarter “Ville de Dudelange”. He welcomed us in the house and gave us a small presentation of this small city and some of his experiences in dealing with immigrates and refugees.
Day 6:
We stared with what we implemented on the previous day of networking, but we moved further on to create project ideas through different milestones and topics. Then we moved to the evaluation and the closing ceremony of the program.
